There was a time when writers knew how to insert exposition into a narrative without constraint and plot. I understand it’s a first episode, but they have to spell everything out like they’re clueless. Watson (Valya), Mark Strong (Kaiser), Travis Fimmel (Hart), and Sarah-Sophie Bouznina (Princess) deliver good performances. I think the show has gotten better. I’ve lost interest in the rest of the characters. They carry the story but are forgettable. I guess we’ll see how it plays out, since it seemed to be part of an indivisible whole. I’ll wait for the whole season before consuming more episodes. On the visuals, they did a fantastic job. The CGI is top quality, the costumes are perfect, and the tone of Villeneuve’s vision is maintained and expanded upon. The art department deserves an award for its beautiful looks.
