The town set was built specifically for the series in North Beaver Bank, Nova Scotia.The site, known as the Beaver Bank Villa has a long history, and many years ago contained housing units, a community hall, fire station, school, church, convenience store, etc. (all demolished by 2004) to support the workers of a nearby military radar base which operated in the 1950's and 1960's. The paved streets and driveways were all that remained, and the fake town was built on them..

The first season was intriguing, a somewhat creative premise that showed a lot of premise. But by the third season you start to feel like they are dragging it out with no particular motive.Season 3 was basically 8 hours of boring drama and 10 minutes of new plot elements. They are just there to add to the queue of unanswered plot lines.
It is there simply to fill in time as the show searches for a premise.The show suffers from same problem as Walking Dead, repeating and recycling same plot lines until they become completely ineffective. Now that the main characters have acclimated to their environment, they walk around freely and even regularly interact with the 'ghouls' . The scary monsters no longer add any tension , instead they feel like a sideshow, abandoned from when the circus has left town.

According to James Cameron, the Avatar sequels were such a large undertaking that he split the three scripts between the writing team of Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman, and Shane Salerno. Cameron elaborates further explaining the story process: “I think we met for seven months and whiteboarded every scene from every movie together, and I didn’t assign each writer which movie they were going to work on until the last day.
