The entire plot of SILO is a vast minefield filled with mystery plot boxes, which the viewer is challenged to CLAW CRAWL through. The true artistry and success of the mystery box deployment depends on the viewer’s tolerance for how often the mystery boxes are placed and when the mystery boxes are finally opened to the public. The main premise of SILO or the overall main mystery box is very similar to that of LOST. At the heart of SILO, the question or main mystery for the audience is: “Why is this community living in a man-made, post-industrial concrete hole in the ground?” The beginning of SILO is interesting. The opening “hook”, the sets, the acting, the production values, the cinematography are all good, if the viewer likes all this dulcet-toned dystopian stuff. The challenge for the viewer can become the fast-paced assembly line of constant mystery boxes and the general slow pace of the plot. Some viewers may enjoy the level of detail and pacing, while others may find their attention spans challenged. SILO is a dark, soft-toned, slow-paced dystopian story, slowly revealing its narrative through an assembly line of mystery boxes.
